Thanksgiving Turkey Rice Krispy Treats With Oreos

by Linette

I made some Thanksgiving turkey Rice Krispy treats (actually I made them with Cocoa Krispies). I got the idea from a party I went to several years ago. I’ve modified them a bit through the years, but here is the result, and how I make them.

Thanksgiving Turkey Treat-2These are soooo fun to make, and the kids will love to help. They make a really cute after dinner treat on Thanksgiving day!

I started by making the Rice Krispy treats, here’s the recipe I used:

Thanksgiving Turkey Rice Krispy Treats

  • 4 cups Cocoa Krispies
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup of peanut butter (optional)

I melted the marshmallows and the butter in the microwave for about a minute in a medium bowl. Then when they were melted I added the cocoa powder and the peanut butter and stirred that all together. Then I added the Cocoa Krispies and stirred until they were all coated.

I put a little non stick cooking spray on my hands and shaped the Krispy mixture into balls, then let them sit. This made about a dozen treats, so if you’d like to make more you can double or triple the recipe.

To assemble the turkey Krispy treats you’ll need:

  • Oreo cookies
  • icing (for glue)~ I used some Betty Crocker icing I had in the cupboard.
  • candy corn

Thanksgiving turkey treat ingredients

After the Krispy treat balls have cooled you’re ready to assemble. Poke the tips of about 8-10 candy corns into the middle icing layer of an Oreo cookie. Do this gently or the cookie will break. Then use a little icing for glue to stick the Oreo cookie turkey tail to the Rice Krispy body. Add another candy corn to the body for the head by sticking it on with icing.

These are super easy to make, and my son had a blast helping.

I made these last year and took them to a shelter where I help serve a meal once a month…they were a huge hit and guests who ate there were touched by the time put into the treats they received. I’m making them again this year and can’t wait to share them 🙂 Thanks for the great idea!
