My niece had her 6th birthday party this weekend. My sister planned a dog themed birthday party for her.
She made a really cute paw print birthday cake, and cupcakes to match the colors in the dog themed party supplies. She used a Wilton #12 tip, then flattened the icing to look like paw prints. She used the same tip to edge the bottom of the cake.
This cake would also be really cute for a cat themed, Webkinz, Pawparazzi pets, or bear themed birthday party. It’s not a complicated cake to make. The cupcakes are even simpler.

We used that same tableware for Hannah’s party back in November!
I love this cake though – we didn’t have a choice for hers since her party was at a play place that didn’t allow us to bring our own, but with two doggie-loving kids, I’m going to have to remember this!
This reminds me of blues clues!!
I luv the cupcakes setting..I’m considering having cupcakes on a 2-tier cake cardboard “platform” instead of having a whole cake and cutting it after that.
I can distribute the cupcakes to each child after blowing the candles! This way, even if the child decide to have it later..it wouldn’t be a mess to pack into ziplocks.
I love it. I’ll have to keep this in mind for a future party. I think it’s so much fun to create general themes. It takes a bit of planning, but the originality makes for a memorable occasion.
That is just the cutest thing I think I’ve ever seen! Love that cake. Just fabulous.
Thanks Susan:)
how did you make the paw print on the cupcakes? is it just a circle of frosting smooshed down? new to baking mom!!!! thanks!
I was planning on making this exact cake for my bf’s daughter– how did she go about making the smaller cakes for the paw? Did she get a small cake pan or cut them out? Looks pretty simple and cute
Michelle~ Yes the paw prints are a circle of frosting, then you just pat it down after it dries a bit.
Kristen~ The smaller cakes are a smaller cake pan, I think it was the Wilton Mini Ball pan, if I remember right, lol. That pan would definitely work.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hi. I like you to know that you have a great site. Very informative and I am visiting you more often.
Love this cake! Would love to make this for my daughter. This will be my first try…..any chance on getting the recipe for the frosting she used?
