One of the biggest obstacles in many people’s lives is moving enough throughout the day. That’s a huge challenge for me too, since my job usually requires me to sit in one place for hours at a time! I recently had the opportunity to review a Misfit Shine from Best Buy. Shine is a gorgeous device that will empower people to be more proactive about their personal health by helping them track their movement throughout the day.
Many of the other activity trackers I’ve seen have been a little clunky and look OK when you’re at the gym, but stand out like a sore thumb when you’re at the office, or someplace else where you need to dress up. Don’t let Shine’s elegant appearance fool you though! It’s carved out of aircraft grade aluminum using micro laser drills and it’s even water proof so you can measure your activity when you’re swimming.
I like to walk, and do a little running once in a while, I’m also a fan of yoga. My absolute favorite way to get moving though is Zumba! I take a Zumba class 3 times a week, so I was interested to find out how that would rate on my Misfit Shine Activity Monitor.
I wore my Misfit Shine for the last couple weeks. I prefer the wrist band, but it was nice to have the clasp to fasten it to my shoe or to a belt loop when I need to.
I used the Shine Misfit App for the iPhone to set my activity level goals to Kinda Active, so I needed to walk 1 hour, run 20 minutes or swim 30 minutes per day to hit 600 points per day. On the days I have Zumba I had no problem hitting my goals I more than met my goals, in fact I was actually to the Pretty Active stage of 1000 points per day.
Right now the Misfit Shine app is only for the iPhone, so I have to use my son’s phone to sync and get my updates, but soon they’re supposed to be coming out with an app for my Android. I can’t wait!
I really liked watching myself improve over the course of the last couple weeks. The app along with my Shine helped me know how much activity I was getting each day, and how much I improved on my activities from the days before, or if I was slacking off a little.
The Shine also measures your sleep patterns and lets you know how much sleep you got, and how many hours of that was deep sleep. Since sleep is something I definitely have a difficult time with I tend to stay up too late, and get up too early in the morning. It helped me to see how I was skimping out on my sleep. I’m trying to improve my sleep habits with the help of Shine. Seeing my sleep habits right in front of me has definitely helped.
I would definitely recommend the Misfit Shine to anyone who is trying to improve their fitness level, especially if you’re looking for something you can wear to the office or even in the water.
Shine is exclusively available in additional colors at Best Buy including Silver, Black, Champagne and Topaz.
